"I told you not to worry about it." You could hear the amusement in Lecter's voice. "Hannibal, I'm always going to feel indebted to you for this," you stated as he led you back upstairs. "I'll show you to your room." He offered his hand, and you took it. "You need your rest, my dear." Hannibal smiled, easily pulling away from you and setting the plates in the sink. It's the least I can do," you offered, placing a hand on his forearm to stop him as he was walking towards the sink. It wasn't long before you'd both finished your dinner (although yours was gone much faster than Hannibal's), and he gathered the empty plates and wine glasses before you could do it yourself. "Oh, Y/N, you flatter me." Hannibal seemed to glow as he laughed under the small chandelier over the table. "I see." You nodded, placing a piece of the root into your mouth. "It must be cooked fairly precisely as it releases trace amounts of cyanide into the body when left raw." "Cassava root." Hannibal sipped his wine. "It's perfect." You smiled, then stabbed one of the weird vegetables with your fork. "How is the lamb? I went with cooking it more well done, just in case you don't like it rare." You giggled softly the wine was getting you to let your guard down a bit more. "I think I deserve some privacy too, hmm?" The attic is furnished for Lady Murasaki, and as for my room." Hannibal laughed softly. "I only ask that you avoid the top floor and my own bedroom. You nodded, taking a swig of the wine that wasn't quite sweet enough for your liking. It seems as though I spend all of my hours in the laboratory, and I'd hate for you to be left with nothing to do." "You're free to explore the chateau as you please when I'm out. I'm attending medical college on a scholarship." Hannibal smiled. "I let my work consume most of my free time now. Even if you had wanted to have a conversation, you were far too busy filling your empty stomach to even think about coherent dialogue. You simply nodded, your mouth stuffed with food. I'd been doing my best to pamper her, and now that she's away, I do feel that there's something missing." "My aunt is visiting her birthplace in Japan," Hannibal stated between bites of his food. He seemed to quietly acknowledge the fact that you didn't want to open up to him quite yet, and he busied himself with trying to make you feel more comfortable. Hannibal let you eat in silence for a few moments before he began to speak to you.
